Named after the biblical figure known for her compassion and unwavering commitment to helping those in need, these awards recognize the remarkable journey of modern-day Dorcases who have faced and conquered significant life-changing challenges. 

 The biblical Dorcas, also known as Tabitha, is celebrated for her incredible dedication to charitable acts, particularly her sewing and the provision of clothing to the underprivileged. Dorcas became very ill and eventually died, leaving a heartbreaking ripple in the community. Because of the support and prayers of her friends and community, Dorcas not only overcame death but also devoted her life to making the lives of others better. The Dorcas Awards seek to shine a spotlight on women who embody these same qualities, women who have faced the storms of adversity and emerged stronger, more compassionate, and committed to serving their communities.
